This herbaceous perennial plant is 1-2.5 feet tall. The stems are medium green, slightly zig-zagging, and glabrous to short pubescent. The alternate leaves are 2 to 5 inches long, broadly elliptic, smooth along the margins, and sessile. The upper leaf surface is medium dark green and glabrous, while the lower surface is paler green and short-hairy along the major veins.
The perianth (combined petals and sepals) is white or greenish. It is common in dry to moist woods. In Duff Park it grows on hillsides off Trillium, Fernwood and Violet Trails.
